The crash happened around 3 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 20 in Hartford County, in the parking lot of a Mobile gas station in Berlin, at 2005 Berlin Turnpike.

Police responded to the gas station for a report of a car striking a bicycle, said Berlin Chief of Police Matthew McNally.

The victim, Chase Anderson, of Berlin, was transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police say the driver remained on the scene.

Anderson recently became a member of the Berlin Police Academy program where he showed "immense enthusiasm," the chief said.

"The entire Berlin Police Department and Police Cadet program convey our deepest sympathy to both his family and friends and were are deeply saddened by the loss of this young cadet whose bright future was cut tragically short," McNally said.
